- French is spoken by over 220 million people worldwide

- It is the official language of 27 countries

- It is one of two official languages of the Olympics! (the other is English plus the language of the hosting country)

- Most of the products we buy have French on their labels! Ever read your shampoo bottle in the shower?!

- Many words we use in English come from French!
  • Do you like fondu? (Fondre is the French word for to melt)
  • Do you order hor d'oeuvres when you go out to eat? Hor d'oeuvres is a French word for starter/appetizer!
  • Do you like the decor of my classroom? Decor is French for the layout/furnishings of a room!
  • Have you ever told someone you are en route to where ever you are going? OMG that's French too!
  • Let's not forget ballet!
